Weekend Breakfast on Sunday

Waking up Oxfordshire with news, comment and music from a spiritual, ethical and moral point of view.

Sunday morning is a time to wake up and ponder some of the challenges the world faces.  To help encourage this, the Weekend Breakfast show takes a look at what's been happening in the lives of those in faith communities in Oxfordshire.  It also keeps an eye on the mornings news, travel and the latest weekend sport.

Phil Mercer

This week (Sunday 10th May)

This programme is available on the iPlayer until Sunday 17th May.

For Christian Aid week, More Questions Than Answers took a look at the work of the Charity in a time of recession here in the UK and heard first hand about the challenges facing Ethiopia.

Take part

"Get involved in the Oxfordshire Devotions and maybe we will come to your Church or Group. Email me using the form at the bottom of the page."

Phil Mercer

We heard how a young person from Abingdon managed to get the Baptist Assembly to back her campaign to remove Mosquito Alarms from town centres.  David Coak and Andrew Myatt came in to the studio to tell us about this years Love Oxford.  And Lizi Bowerman from Christians Against Poverty had a look through the Sunday Papers.

How the show shapes up each week:

The Oxfordshire Devotional

Between 6 and 7am you will find a mixture of traditional Christian hymns and songs. At 6.30am local church and Christian group leaders take a short devotional including prayers and reading from the Bible and a thought.   To involve your church in our devotional or listen to parts of past ones, then have a look at our dedicated page.

Classics

At 6.30 we find an inspirational piece of Classical music and then the Hymnadist Dr Gillian Warson explains the story behind a hymn of the day in her series Hymns from Honeysuckle Cottage.

Your Faith Place

We send our intrepid reporter Rev Hedley Feast to some of the special corners of Oxfordshire that are a perfect place to reflect or maybe bolster the faith of our chosen guest.

Reflection

We have an army of leaders of faith groups and lay people who turn their minds to the events of the week with our reflection which you can also hear on Friday mornings on the early breakfast show.

More Questions Than Answers

In a world that is very keen on the sound bite, Phil Mercer takes time out to talk one subject through.  It is a chance to learn hopefully something about an individual point of view, controversial subject or belief structure.  We've tackled topics from druidry to abortion.  You may some answers to questions you'd not thought of asking, Sundays after 8am.

The Team

Phil Mercer presents the Weekend breakfast show and Vicky Parsons is the producer. When you phone the show, Hollie is the lovely voice at the end of the line.  We have regular help from Rev Hedley Feast and Mike Stranks as well.

Email Phil Mercer with your ideas for the programme.
