Modern Art Oxford

Oxford Open

Modern Art Oxford features 533 square metres of local art.

The simple design brief is that artists are given one square metre of exhibition space to use for their idea. This has lead to 466 wall-based works, 56 sculptures and 11 films which are now on display in the upper galleries at the museum in Pembroke Street.

There was no selection criteria for the exhibition but they are inviting luminaries to come in and choose their favourite pieces and explain why they like them.

Blur bassist Alex James picked John Grieve’s dustbin inspired piece called NFS and said, “It has been done before but anyone who can put a rubbish bin in an art gallery and get away with it is an artist.”

There is also a public ballot so that you can choose the piece of work you like best, with the winners announced on the 8th of February.
