Police were backing the installation of eight cameras along Cowley Road, but at a meeting on the 15th of August residents expressed concern that they would simply push crime into the side streets. They were in favour of just two of the cameras outside the churchyard and the old bingo hall. So how well do you think CCTV cameras work? Do they cut crime? Do they invade our privacy? If you have cameras installed where you live, how have things changed on the streets? Let us know what you think by filling out the form below. --------------- I think CCTV cameras are essential in crime detection and evidence. I don't think they will cut crime dramatically straight away but I bet those residents will kick themselves if they were to be attacked on Cowley Road but don't have a CCTV tape as a crucial "witness". Martyn Taylor. As a former resident of Oxford (Brookes) I spent most of my time in the Cowley Rd as it was safer than the Centre. I still visit & find it much the same (apart from all the al fresco eateries - it always was a bit trendy!) Is the Cowley Rd THAT dangerous?! For me, no - so well done to the residents! Nick Sillence. Most side streets of Cowley Road are a neighbourhood watch area, so concern for crime pushed into the side streets is rubbish. Install CCTV cameras all round Oxford. I'm in favour.
