Foals interview

By Tim Bearder

Last time we did a page on this band in September 2006 Marc West said “Sticking my neck out - this is the next big band from Oxford.”

It would seem that NME don’t agree. They concede they are the next big thing but have disputed their Oxford connection despite the fact they grew up here and formed in the city.

A brief hiatus on the South coast has seen them labelled a Brighton band but lets not get all parochial, we can all happily agree they are a monumental band. And in this interview they’ve exclusively revealed they are moving back to Oxford making them officially ours again, so there!

Even in early bands like Elizabeth and then Edmund Fitzgerald every one of our correspondents agreed the front man Yannis was a serious talent but it’s with their current line-up that they have really come of age and a truly powerful and impressive act.

You can here me speaking to Yannis and Jack outside The Cellar before they went on to storm a sell-out show which was so busy people had to be turned away at the door.
