The Browning Version and Harlequinade

Tuesday 10 – Saturday 14 April Performance Times: Tue – Thu & Sat Eves 7.30pm, Fri Eve 8pm, Sat Mat 2.30pm (No Mat Thu 12) Tickets: £9 - £14 (concessions available) Box Office: 01865 305305

The Browning Version was first performed in 1948, and is set at a British public school during the final teaching days of Classics teacher Andrew Crocker-Harris.

His wife urges him to show resentment to his employers who are denying him his pension and a chance to say a formal goodbye. But when a pupil comes to him for help with his Greek Crocker-Harris starts to express his true feelings, not just about his job but his marriage too.

Harlequinade, also by Terence Rattigan, is a farcs originally written as a companion piece to contrast with The Browning Version. It's set in the world of post-war theatre and features an ageing cast who are in the middle of rehearsals for a production of Romeo and Juliet. Their once comfortable life is then further upset by a chaotic opening night, arguments and an unexpected visitor.

Oxford Theatre Guild's next production will be Sheridan’s The Rivals in the beautiful gardens of Trinity College from 17 – 28 July, 2007.
