His international reputation was set to rival that of JK Rowling with the release of the first film adaptation of the 'His Dark Materials' series. At 2007's Oxford Literary Festival he gave two separate talks where he examined the relationship of book and film. This included discussion of 'The Golden Compass' and how the first book in his trilogy was made into a blockbuster starring Hollywood luminaries like Nicole Kidman and Daniel Craig.
