Will Banks' Soul Prescription Sundays 19:00 - 21:00
1. How did you get into radio?
By working hard and getting into debt! I did a work placement at BBC WM in Birmingham and refused to leave.
2. What was your first broadcast?
First for the Beeb was an early morning show at WM. I had to get up at 3.30am and I hated it.
3. What other jobs have you done besides broadcasting?
I did all sorts to pay my way through university. I was a DJ on a river cruiser which was fun. I got up at 4 in the morning to measure out cookie dough which wasn't.
4. What would you like to be if you weren’t a radio presenter?
I'd like to write a book or run a café. I have the menus and everything. Maybe one day…
5. What would listeners be surprised to learn about you?
I don't think I'm a very surprising person really. I'm not bad at darts and beat a bloke who once played for England. Is that surprising enough?
6. Which person would you most enjoy being stuck in a lift with?
Do dead people count? Mozart.
7. If you won the lottery, what would you do with the money?
You might not believe this but I really wouldn't like to win the lottery. I like to earn my money. If I earned that kind of money, I'd probably ponce around on a yacht and drive fast cars. Like James Bond but without the danger.
8. What is your worst habit?
Being grumpy. I'm a grumpy old man way before my time.
9. Tell us about your 1st: Car: An old VW Golf. Job: A paper round. Kiss: Honestly can't remember but I'm sure it was some awful teenage thing. Record/CD: Huey Lewis & the News.
10.What is your favourite? Food: Anything Italian. Sandwich: I make a mean Mediterranean style goats cheese and vegetable sandwich. If I do say so myself. Place in Oxfordshire: The Pitt Rivers Museum - it's dark and mysterious and everything a museum should be. Thame is lovely on a Saturday morning. Item of clothing: I don't really have a favourite but I have a great collection of t-shirts. I don't ever wear most of them but I can't bear to give them away! Song: Where do I start? I couldn't even narrow it down to 100. Singer: Also tough - Mavis Staples, Aretha Franklin, Candi Staton, Nina Simone, James Carr…I could go on. Film: You can't beat Star Wars. Buster Keaton's 'The General' makes me laugh, and I love The Wicker Man too. TV Show: Beavis & Butthead. The fact that it still makes me laugh proves that I'm yet to grow up.
