1. How did you get into radio? Via a fishing boat, actually. I met Dave Cash at the Marquee club in London and he introduced me to some Americans who were setting up a new radio station and were looking for people with no radio experience so that they could train them in their style of presentation. 2. What was your first broadcast? Terrible. In May 1966 from the high seas on Swinging Radio England on a ship off Frinton. 3. What other jobs have you done besides broadcasting? When I left school I was an accountant. During the school hols I was a writer in a hotel, plus the inevitable paper round. 4. What would you like to be if you weren’t a radio presenter? Handsome. Or sound mixer/tour manager for Brian Wilson/Beach Boys. 5. What would your listeners be surprised to learn about you? I'm a good cook. 6. Which person would you most enjoy being stuck in a lift with? Sophia Loren. 7. If you won the lottery, what would you do with the money? Buy houses in Portugal, San Francisco and Knightsbridge, make my children financially secure and give away the rest to people who need some help. 8. What is your worst habit? Being too honest. It upsets some people.
