On New Year’s Day 2007 BBC Radio Oxford broadcast the ultimate tribute to The Beatles in Oxfordshire.

Local music historian Trevor Hayward leads the search for stories about the Fab Four's various visits to the county during the height of their fame.

He tracks down Arthur Titherington, the Oxford Mail reporter that captured The Beatles on a flying visit to The Windrush Pub near Witney and speaks to Martin Jarvis who supported them at The Carfax Assembly Rooms in 1963.

Local music journalists Tim Bearder, David Gilyeat and Martin Eastaugh chip in along the way by scheduling an unsurpassed list of local bands covering The Beatles' material in a way never previously heard.

And there is also a chance to hear from the local artists that are keeping The Beatles flame alive in the guise of tribute acts, including a very special interview with Andre Barreau who plays George Harrison in the world’s most successful Beatles tribute act ever.

You can listen to the whole show here for a week after broadcast but if you missed it then enjoy the pictures and keep your eyes peeled for a repeat.

I saw the Beatles at the Carfax Assembly Rooms in February 1963. Coolest guy was Ringo - just sitting there, bashing his skins. The band played in the far left-hand corner at dance-floor level. I don't remember any screaming girls. It was just a dance really.

you could add Klaus Voormann to the Beatle squad as when Paul left in 1970 he was actually asked by the boys to step in an from a group called the Ladders. He was a mate from the Hamburg days and stayed a mate till the end.He also did the Grammy award winning cover for Revolver.

denise theophilus - Liverpool!
