From The Kinks to The Clash, The Libertines to The Streets, it is said that in every British band, there is a little bit of Britain.

The musical legacy of this country is rich in bands with that certain something…and, although only a young outfit, The Maccabees are already making positive strides towards becoming part of this grand tradition.

South London boys drawn by romantic intuition to hone their talents on the South coast in Brighton, this quirky five piece create jarring, angular rhythms with intoxicating riffs, all wrapped-up in a seamless pop package.

Their post-punk styling is brought bang up-to-date with elements of dirty drum and bass, razor-sharp guitars from the White brothers and twitching, jerking onstage moves led by frontman Orlando Weeks - who marches around the stage like a freshly-oiled Tin Man.

All this is easily enough to make tonight’s eager bunch of cardigan-clad indie kids dance themselves into an absolute frenzy – especially when treated to live favourite and current Fierce Panda single, Latchmere.

With a glint in their eye and a spring in their step, The Maccabees are safe in the knowledge that all their hard work is beginning to pay off. In fact, the confident youngsters have just penned a five album deal to become part of the rich artistic tapestry that is Fiction Records.

New Wave Indie Rock at it’s best!
