The phones went red hot at BBC Radio Oxford when breakfast presenter Anne Diamond asked for moral support for her weight loss challenge on tv’s Celebrity Fit Club.

Now hundreds of listeners have signed up to be Diamond Dieting Buddies, both encouraging Anne to get fit and slim for the New Year, and to lose weight themselves.
They range from portly men who have been volunteered by their wives to lose a few pounds after Christmas, to housewives and professional career women who’ve promised Anne they’ll get to the gym, go swimming or even start trampolining before setting off to work and taking the children to school.
Anne has been presenting the breakfast show at BBC Oxford for over a year, as part of the station’s new, fresh sound. But she’s never seen a public reaction quite like this one.
“It just shows how many people are, like me, battling a weight problem but are determined to make a fresh start in 2006,” said Anne.
“Every week after Celebrity Fit Club on Tuesday evening, we’re having a Weigh-In Wednesday on the breakfast show, when my Dieting buddies will come into the studio to be weighed or ring in with their progress,” says Anne. “I really feel that doing this together will spur us on to great things!”
