What is BBC Oxford Introducing...?

The BBC Oxford Introducing local music show is dedicated to the best artists in Oxfordshire.

What has BBC Oxford Introducing ever done for us?

Just some of the special opportunities we've secured for local bands:

Maria Ilett opened the main stage at Cornbury.

Little Fish played the legendary Maida Vale studios.

A Silent Film and Jonquil played Glastonbury.

Stornoway played Radio 1's Big Weekend.

The Winchell Riots played Wakestock Festival.

Live sessions with Alphabet Backwards, Ally Craig, The Black Hats, Borderville, Cat Matador, Cogwheel Dogs, The Epstein, Family Machine, Foxes!, The Gullivers, The Keyz, KTB, Matt Kilford, The Molotovs, Natureboy, The Original Rabbit Foot Spasm Band, Piney Gir, Richard Walters, Tristan and the Troubadours, Ute, We Aeronauts, Witches, The Young Knives and many more.

'BBC Oxford Introducing...' is The Artist Formerly Known as 'The Download', BBC Oxford's local music show.

Now part of the BBC Introducing brand, we can go further than ever when it comes to discovering new talent. Already under this new initiative we've secured A Silent Film a Glastonbury appearance and given Little Fish a session at the world famous Maida Vale studios. What could be next?

"Somewhat of an anomaly as far as local radio shows go… It’s quite possibly cooler than anything on national radio or television." Obscene (Oxford Brookes Student Magazine March 2007-09-04)

You’d better believe it! We like to think we blow everything else out of the water when it comes to a dedicated, thorough and interesting exploration of the local music scene. 'BBC Oxford Introducing' is always first to support the best unsigned artists in the county and after more than four years breaking bands the show is now friend to stars that regularly bother the top spots in the charts.

Mercury Music Prize Nominees The Young Knives have made numerous appearances on the show from their time as a fledgling band whose frontman held down a job at RM near Abingdon. Meanwhile Top 40 stars Foals have been tracked by our reviewers through various incarnations in the murky Oxford musical underworld and played one of our many live gig showcases. We've released two charity CDs featuring the cream of Oxfordshire talent and given many more their first ever radio airplay.

It’s there where the show’s irreverent breed of off kilter humour breeds and flourishes, and through the magic of radio local stars have been involved in tank battles, abseiling accidents and outer space missions. In short, without giving the show a listen it’s very difficult to describe but as one online fan writing from Wales said: “I have to confess to having been an avid listener to Radio Luxemburg/Caroline/London and many others but there have been few programmes in the intervening years which have shown so much vitality until your arrival.”

He is amongst the massive online following that consistently see 'BBC Oxford Introducing' ranking as the most listened to local music show among all the BBC local radio stations. Go on, give it a blast!

The show is presented by Tim Bearder and Dave Gilyeat and if you'd like your band to take part then please send your CDs to:
