This autumn at Oxford Playhouse as English Touring Theatre return to open their brand new production of HAMLET from Friday 23 September to Saturday 1 October. Shakespeare’s greatest tragedy, HAMLET is the story of murder, betrayal, madness and revenge. Rising star of British theatre, Ed Stoppard plays the title role with Anita Dobson playing Queen Gertrude. ETT is renowned for the clarity and style of its work and return to the Playhouse following the success of Tom Stoppard’s Rosencrantz and Guildenstern are Dead last May. This new production of HAMLET will stay true to the company’s ethos of producing raw, direct and passionate theatre. Ed Stoppard takes on one of the most challenging roles in drama. His family ties mean that he was born into the theatre and recent productions have included Age, Sex, Location at the Riverside Studios, London and The Seagull and The Merchant of Venice at Chichester Festival Theatre. Anita Dobson, whilst familiar to millions as Angie from Eastenders, received the finest notices of her career for her performance in Frozen at the National Theatre and was nominated for Best Actress at The Olivier Awards, Evening Standard Awards and London Critics Circle Awards. Other stage work includes Budgie with Adam Faith, Three Sisters at The Royal Court, Le Bourgeois Gentilhomme at The National and Kvetch at The Garrick. |
