February 2005
Bully full for groovy tunes
Tom Findlay
Tom Findlay
Groove Armada's Tom Findlay's DJ set in Oxford at the weekend was a big success for those lucky enough to get into a rammed Bullingdon Arms.

Kirsty Leahy was one of them.

The demand for exciting club nights and the broad appeal of Groove Armada could mean only one thing - Tom Findlay's set at The Bully Arms was going to be very, very popular.

Sure enough before 9pm there was a long queue on the Cowley Road which was still there at midnight.

I couldn't help feeling that for such an event, Brookes or at the very least The Zodiac would have been a more suitable venue.

That said, for those that got in it really was a special night - a true "I was there" moment.

Just like any great night of clubbing it was hot and sticky and right from the off everyone was dancing.

Before the main event resident DJs Emily Williams and Sean Holbrook more than got the crowds in the mood with superb funky house sets.

It was a tough act for Tom Findlay to follow and he could have been forgiven for wondering how he could up the vibe.

Some slick mixing, an excellent choice of tunes and an up-for-it Oxford bunch meant that wasn't a problem.

Funky house and dirty beats remained the choice, with Mylo's Drop The Pressure among the more familiar tunes.

An alternative version of Groove Armada's Superstylin' could have led to the Bully falling apart such was the response from the audience!

When the two-hour set finished at 2am those on the dance floor could have gone on all night.
