Our business
The BBC is committed to managing its business in an ethically sound manner and we seek to bring about positive impacts for society.
Part of this commitment is to treat our global workforce properly, as well as understand and meet their diverse needs. The BBC's Diversity Centre aims to ensure we have an inclusive and diverse workforce, and that we represent diverse audiences in programming.
We also try to have a positive impact on communties in areas where we have a large number of staff, and to provide oppoprtunities for people from diverse background to learn more about the BBC and the careers available with us.
Creating a diverse workforce
In order to be the most creative organisation in the world, we need a workforce as diverse as the audience we serve. We understand that we need many different people with very different skills to achieve this ambition.
To allow people to shine in their chosen field, and to encourage new talent to consider joining our workforce, we have developed a number of training schemes and targeted opportunities. We hope this helps us appeal to people who may not have chosen a creative career path, or who may never have believed the BBC was for them.

One such scheme is the 2012 Apprenticeships, which was developed to help us create a legacy from the London 2012 Olympic Games. The scheme was launched in January 2010 and aims to help people hoping to kickstart a career in the media. By the end of 2012, 30 trainees will have completed the course in London and gained a Creative and Digital Media Apprenticeship Level 3 qualification.
You can learn more about this and other schemes in our recent corporate responsibility update and in the film below, which highlights a small selection of the schemes we have available.
