The draft criteria for the Personal Independence Payment have been published and the DWP wants feedback at PIP.assessment@dwp.gsi.gov.uk -but it closes 6th June: that's MONDAY. Please please please email them!

The draft criteria (there's a link to them here: www.dwp.gov.uk/docs/... are appalling, especially when it comes to D/deaf people: pretty much the only activity that takes into account the difficulties that D/deaf people face is 'Communication' and even here, if you can 'communicate unaided' you score zero points- so are entitled to nothing. 'Unaided' means without the help of another person or an aid like a hearing-aid or cochlear implant. But even if you use an aid or an interpreter, you don't strictly speaking need them to communicate as long as you can read and write! It's an excuse that's already sometimes used to refuse D/deaf people DLA. We shouldn't be penalised for being literate!

If you want to get ideas about what to write and see what I sent in, I've written about this at analogators.tumblr.com. Remember: before Monday! (I really hope this gets through the mods before then)

Pure unadulterated attacks on the deaf, the only positive about the whole thing is we finally get equality we are attacked with the same venom as other vulnerable. This is the government saying "You are only deaf, no reason why you can't hear." ridiculous !
