Does anyone know if you still qualify for a disbled person's Railcard by virtue of recieving long Term Incapacity Benefit? (if you don't meet any of the other criteria).

The application form accesed by clicking on their website does not have this caregory listed to tick, although older forms available on the internet (found by serching 'disabled person's rail card incapacity' ) do.

I've downloaded one, but it says valid up til September 09. Anyone?

I had to send my DLA award letter with my application and I believe that there was thread here about 4 months ago about someone in the same situation as you are in, if you use the essential help thread you can search the forum and find it, sorry I cant help more.

If you are a wheelchair user you dont need a railcard, you get 30-50% of fares anyway but you do have to stay in the wheelchair at all times on the train.

If you can be assessed for attendance allowance, by Social Services,
Send a photo-copy, of AA confirmation, with application for a Disabled Person Railcard.

Long Term IB used to be a criteria for getting a badge but that was stopped about a year ago. Sadly you now need one of the benefits listed on the disabled railcard website to get a disabled railcard.

Also re travellling in a wheelchair and getting the discount without having a railcard, this is only applies to 'Anytime' tickets which are the most expensive in most cases. You cannot get the discount on 'Off Peak (formerley Saver or Supersaver tickets) or Advance tickets bought on the web which are usually the cheapest, particularly on long journeys.

Our local council insists upon having proof of DLA mobility at the higher rate for blue badges and bus passes. IMO the council's criteria for bus passes isn't in keeping with the Transport Act or with all of the Department of Transport's recommendations. Neighbouring councils in the same county will accept other proof, such as a certified statement from a medical professional or letter from a physiotherapist. This, coupled with not being able to apply for a disabled railcard is most annoying when in receipt of long term IB.
