I've just watched the Stargate: Universe premier. Colour me startled that when it came to a choice of letting the paralyzed soldier or the politician close the leaking airlock from the wrong side, they chose the politician...

Of course the soldier then recovered, but hey, it's a start....

Well, he chose himself to be fair and was about to croak it anyway, so saved his daughter *sob *sob*
I would really love to know how that soldier recovered so quickly.. .a gou'ald host perhaps? Whatever his secret, I wish I could get better like that!
I don't like Robert Carlyle and was cross when they axed Stargate Atlantis exclaiming loudly at the time that I would be boycotting this new "rubbish" as rehashed Voyager or Battlestar Galatica. However, it looks promising don't you think? No annoying camera shake or fracks!!! So far....smiley - smiley

Ahh!! Spoilers!! *runs away as fast as possible*

I wasn't home Friday night when it premiered, so I haven't seen it yet. Though it looks good. I'm a big fan of Star Trek: Voyager, so a similar premise intrigued me. Though I am a die-hard Star Trek fan and haven't gotten into any other sci-fi series yet...this one just might be the first. Itunes is offering the premiere for free, so I'm going to download that and watch it soon.

    >> Well, he chose himself to be fair <<

When I said 'they chose' I meant the scriptwriters.

    >> I would really love to know how that soldier recovered so quickly <<

The medic did say she thought it was spinal shock rather than actual damage to the cord, so the recovery was on the cards, but I think they were still pushing it in terms of speed, particularly as he was probably concussed as well.

We'll have to see how it develops, it worries me that there's no obvious over-arching plot structure as with SG:1 (war against the Gou'ald) or SG:A (war against the Wraith), without that it risks becoming ST: Voyager and its space anomaly of the week.

Oooops! No spoiler intended, it was run of the mill set up stuff really, setting out the story and characters so to speak.
Die hard Trekkie eh? I went to the Bournemouth SF ball last year with my son. Hilarious. This year's theme is 50s sci-fi. I am deciding how to incoperate this into my new wheelie look!!! No daleks...that was the 60s. A thunderbirds rocket is out for the same reason. Any ideas fellow sci-fi fans? Nothing rude please, my meds wont allow it. smiley - biggrin

ST: Voyager and its space anomaly of the week

Actually, ST: Voyager was a REALLY good show, not just "space anomaly of the week". If any ST show was like that, I'd say the original series. ST: Voyager focused on the number of aliens Voyager encountered in the Delta Quadrant as well as the sense of community the crewmembers experienced from being stranded together (Tom & B'Elanna <3...though I honestly have no idea where the whole Chakotay/7 of 9 thing came from...Chakotay and Captain Janeway were totally meant to be together). It also spent many episodes on new cremember's adjustment to the ship and its dynamic crew (think about 7's acclimation process...she almost went back to the Borg several times...) There WERE a few "space anomaly of the week" episodes, but all in all not many.

They have gone for "shortage and suspicion of the week" instead of even bothering with alien/anomaly of the week. God it's awful. We have tried to get on with this show hoping it would get better as the character established, but all the darkness, tight camera angles, constant "he must be hiding something" stuff... getting old, folks! We start of thinking well gosh, what will they be short of this week? And they seem to do little to help themselves or build a sense of community. The military are unquestioningly in charge and hated by the civvies who are just sent to their rooms to wait for the mighty millies to fix everything. They haven't put on ... I dunno, a play or something, just ease the boredom! If you can't have everything then at least have a laugh when you can.

Atlantis may not have been the most entertaining show that ever there was, but at least I didn't feel so closed in and oppressed by the right in their faces and up their nostrils camera work of SGU that I have to go outside for a while and remind myself the world is bigger than that.
