Disabled actors in "mockumentary"

6 disabled actors are to star in a "Mockumentary" where they are sent to live on a desert island for reality TV... www.digitalspy.co.uk...

Includes Mat and Kiruna from Ouch (Katie I know you will be pleased!)

Not sure what I think, is the casting a bit predictable? I am delighted they are using real crip actors and not normie fakers, but does that mean the writers will feel "endorsed" by that, and take it too far?

Personally I think the best disability comedy I've seen is Lou and Andy in Little Britain, and perhaps the parody "soapstarsuperstarstrictlyonice" or whatever it was called. And they were all fakers, but it was funny because they combined the outsider and disability points of view, in my opinion.

Anyway, I put this topic up for your discussion... and run away to a meeting! Byeee... have fun.

Also, as it's channel 4 I guess we will be saved from the end credits voiceover "To discuss any issues raised in tonight's programme, go to www.bbc.co.uk/ouch and click on messageboard..." smiley - biggrin

I'm really going out the door now, but would be interested to read people's responses.

Oh, sorry I assumed the "Quick I've just seen a disabled person on TV" was for if you had already seen one - a sort of fan spotting kind of thing, rather than discussion of forthcoming stuff that hasn't aired yet!

Nicola Clark is right. I made the same point about "blacking up" over a year ago when Hollyoaks cast a non disabled actor in the role of Spencer, a young man with a learning disability - in spite of auditiioning several actors (some formally trained as actors) who do have a learning disability. The BBC as usual make the right noises but the visability of some very talented actors with learning disabilities on our screens is still virtually non existent. Would Eastenders have cast a white man to play Patrick Trueman? No. Would Hollyoaks cast a man without a learning disability to play Spencer - yes and that's a disgrace which passed by with very little comment.
