Hacker Harrassment - Help Please

I think one more point which is worth mentioning about messageboards is that the owners have to share some of the responsibility for reducing the problems caused by the anonimity involved on the internet.

Most sites have the ability to check the IP address of users in a way that will stop much of the abuse as this enables them to easily identify and block abusers in serious cases and at the very least identify those who use multiple identities to carry out their activities.

LOL You would be amazed just how many flame wars are actually largely the same person arguing with themselves using two different names but from the same IP just to draw others into a fight too.

Thank you once again to everyone who has taken the time and trouble to help with this.

I am sorry this is all coming out in dribs and drabs, but the situation is complex and to explain it all in one post would have made it too long to read in one go.

I feel the information here is of importance to all disabled people. Even though many will not be affected directly, everyone should be made aware of what is going on.

When my computer was hacked it took several months of searching, but I eventually found out who it was and indeed who was organising the harassment at my home address. The confirmation came when he made a post under his real name, which contained a very specific piece of my stolen data. I know of many message boards where he has a 'presence', because he often includes references to real incidents of harassment, (I will describe how this works later). He has hundreds of aliases on various boards, often stretching back years and on some poorly regulated websites, seems to have inveigled himself into the position of 'moderator', based purely on 'length of service' (I am sure the BBC has much tighter controls in place). As far as I know he has never been gainfully employed and describes himself as 'living off a private income'. This gives him the time to make scores of posts every day (and often far into the night).

All this has a very strong relevance to disabled people as I shall explain. A few months ago I had a real stroke of luck I managed to get in touch with one of his other victims. This contact revealed several more. The one thing they have in common is that they are all disabled in some way and very vulnerable as well. Mostly their experiences have been worse than mine because they did not know the attackers identity. However, they did understand that the source of their problems came from someone on a message board. Here is how it works.

'Several' posters (though actually one individual), seem to be making oblique references to private aspects of the victims life. At first he or she thinks they must be imagining it. They then start to experience regular vandalism etc. from 'the locals'. One day the side window of their car is smashed. They go out in their wheelchair to sweep up the glass. Shortly afterwards one of the suspicious posters says that they have had the side window of their car smashed and have had to sweep it up in their wheelchair. The victim wonders about this because of all the other things the poster has said. The incidents continue, but any attempt to prove a link with the message board is hampered by the fragmentary nature of the evidence. Just like me, most of these people are not coming forward because they have been driven off message boards through fear. They hope that by staying away the harassment will stop. If you think this is too weird to be true, please see the opening paragraph of my second post. It looks weird because the hacker has carefully devised the scheme to be 'unreportable'. It is a reflection of his own terrible problems, not those of his victims.

    Thanks for your help Sociable.

I couldn't mention this in my main post because of space. Based on previous experiences, this hacker has several motives for his strange behaviour. One is to hack other people's computers which are then used in distributed denial of service attacks. He attacked disability message boards and left abuse.

This also means he can use other computers for hacking, using many different IP addresses.

My early post did not make it clear, but the main problem has moved of the Internet and into real world harassment.

'I dont think your stalker has actually hacked into your or anyones computer, I think he got the information he needed and used the search sites we have mentioned to get close to you.'

This seems a strange statement aardvark.

Firstly, hacking and the theft of data from hard discs is so common that there are thousands of websites devoted to tackling it. Why pick on a really obscure way of stealing IDs when statisticaly it is far more likely to have been taken from my hard disk?

Secondly, I haven't told you anything about my computer security, why are you trying to convince me that nobody has hacked into mine or anyone elses machine? How could you possibly know?

I wonder what the connection is between the "hacker" and the real life locals?? How does the hacker contact them and persuade them to do what they do???
Does this individual have contact with the locals and power over them ?

I suspect a lot of people have had some sort of harassment via pcs... but for it to actually spill into everyday life and involve others i would think is rare.

    I hope its sorted soon...

you do need to continue to be brave and try get some of the other people to be brave too.. If poss borrow a digi camera and hide behind the curtains and get pics of the people doing the vandalism... If they can be traced then maybe they will be able to explain what power this person has over them.. maybe it can then be traced back to the hacker and he can be stopped.

Actually Nadine Aardvark is correct and the kind of deliberate direct 1-2-1 hacking into the hard disc of a home computer system you describe is very rare indeed.

The relative few with the required knowledge and expertise generally also have more profitable or subversive intentions than individual personal attacks.

As he points out there are far easier ways to get the information about individuals particularly if they already know the individual in some way even if only from detail given in posts and profiles..

On the IP trace side of things even if an individual "hacked" your system it would be very very hard to post to a message board to a board which appeared to come from your IP without actually being at your keyboard itself rather than at a remote location.

As I said earlier such IP tracing is very sophisticated and almost impossible to beat so all you need to do is ask the webmasters involved to run a check on the use of multiple "identies" from the same IP so that the individuals concerned can be asked to explain their actions as of course there are legitamate reasons for doing this where several people actually share a connection or computer.

Truth will out as they say. smiley - smiley

'you say that you started emailing messages to people you trusted and were talking about your feelings.
How sure were you beofre you started writing that this person was safe enough to let into your inner most feelings?
the internet allows a person to be so many different characters. most often the stalker/harresser is someone who actually knows you. Only the famous have stalkers who they dont know.
This stalker may be someone who you let someway, how ever small, into your life.'

I know exactly who is harassing me because he revealed many specific details of his own identity, long before I exchanged 'private' messages ( not e-mails) with the disabled lady.

He has an IQ of 180 and has a history of infiltrating message boards by pretending to part of a particular group. It is well documented that he posed as a Muslim, quoting texts from holy books. When he was discovered he stopped posting. He is not disabled but writes screeds of text about the disability act etc. on disability boards, but actually dislikes disabled people intensly. That is why he attacks them.

This hacker often makes references to Satanism, which is a key part of his character. The weight of evidence is so overwhealming that this 'stalker' is one very particular person and is certainly not the disabled woman that I exchanged messages with.

The famous may very well have stalkers that they don't know, but I know this one very well. He cannot hide the very real problems he has.

You need to look at the posting more carefully.

'The locals' was in inverted commas to indicate how the police are mislead into believing this.

I'd have to be a lot more specific about who this person is to really demonstrate why all this is not as unlikely as you would like to think.

I did warn you to be very careful about blaming the victims for the weirdness of these attacks, but you are finding it very hard to resist the easy option.

The hacker is a Satanist and is driven in very strange ways. You cannot really make an informed decision about this until you have read about his strange beliefs. Other more 'respectable' Satanists have opened websites because they are concerned that he is bringing their beliefs into disrepute. His neo-nazi / paedophile connections are particularly problematical for them. These problems are not trivial. A very large neo-nazi group which he was involved with, discovered his leanings and threw him out immediately. You are quite wrong to cast doubt on the things I have said, when this person has been involved in all sorts of strange obsessive activity for years.

Last time somebody told me this on a hacked message board I showed it to the IT team and a systems analyst who work for a very large telecoms company. They just laughed and said 'is he on drugs'?!

We will have to agree to disagree, but everyone I have spoken to says your claim is totally untrue.

It's just a fact of life that if you post something like this on a message board, you will get all sorts of responses. Some people will believe you, and some won't.

Likewise, you will encounter many people with extensive knowledge of the internet and computers who will express opinions as to what is or is not possible and probable.

I concur with those that say that you should protect your computer with the best firewalls you can get. There's no reason not to do so these days.

In relation to physical harrassment, the answer is simple: get a CCTV camera installed.

As for online, change your ID to something completely different and start again on different sites where you aren't known. It's a good idea to use different names on different sites anyway.
It was my deceased brother's birthday back in March and this special day in my life was marked by increased levels of harassment. A succession of strangers tramped past my back fence shouting 'how's Peter then?' and a woman in a 4x4 smiled and asked where Peter had gone. Here we come to the nub of the problem. It would seem easy to just get descriptions and the registration number and go to the police. But this is where the hacker is so 'clever'. He has access to an individual's most private information and knows how to use this to cause the maximum suffering. Conversely, the police don't know what the hell you are talking about and think, you the victim, are the weirdo, not your assailant.
Its not that I don't believe you nor that I'm blaming you... its just confusing.

If these people arent "locals" ..you seem to think they aren't tho the police think they are... then who are they... and why do they do what this man wants ???

Where do they come from and why are they tormenting you..

Im asking this because if he has the links to satanism and peadophillia etc and they are doing this on his orders then if the police find one of them they may reveal things he can easily be arrested for ...

If he's arrested then he cant continue this real life you'd be free.

Presumably they would take great care to check out the two other equally likely possibilities too.

The first being that this is actually a clever campaign to cause problems for a perfectly innocent individual by making such false alegations just to make mischief.

The second being that although a person might fully believe this is actually happening to them it is in fact all just a figment of their imagination.

I am not saying either is the case here just that these two other explanations would need to be fully considered by anyone investigating this matter which might explain the initial reaction by the local police.

If someone really has got the ability to hack into machines at will and to enter messageboards at will then I think it would be something to investigate in any case.

It's beginning to sound like the 21stC version of The Devil Rides out, but there was a case in the USA about 8 years ago rather similar to this. On the face of it people might scoff, but that in itself could be a good defence.

Someone with superior computing ability was getting up to all sorts of mischief and making life a misery for a number of people.

The CIA became involved because there were hints to terrorist connections and actually it turned out to be some kid whose dad was a computer scientist. Naturally the kid had access to all the equipment and he was creating a lot of stress before he was caught. So it's not such an unlikely scenario.

On the other hand it COULD be a royal leg-pull but we don't have the power to determine that.

when i wrote my posts I tried to write them so it would be clrear that I am not blaming you for any part of this harressement. I work for womens aid so I totally understand how victims are made to look as if they bring it on themselves or that they are to blame.

maybe you can look at bringing a joint case to the police with these other people who are being harrassed. strenght in numbers and all that.

The link was fairly interesting... nothing Ive not seen before tho.. a bit like lots of conspiracy stuff there may well be a grain of truth but the source is hardly a well known mainstream one and maybe the product of a lot of conjecture and surmising.

I encountered similar claims at some of the Very evangelical churches I used to attend... and when you are in certain states of mind and seemingly intelligent people who you respect and trust tell you these things its easy to swallow hook line and sinker. Sadly such reports are sometimes also written with people with dodgy agendas who know any mention of Satanism will get the mentioned person in a very sticky situation.

But lets presume for a minuite its 100% gospel true....It STILL doesn't explain, in the case you state of the lady in the 4x4 and the people who walked past your garden chanting, How did he contacted them and why they were doing what you say they did. What motivation did they have.. if they aren't local how far did they travel to do this to you ?

If these sorts of incidents or other physical acts of harrassment are still occurring is it the same people doing things ?? if not where are they from if not locals ???

I think perhaps you should concentrate on the practical sides get a digi camera or borrow a cctv camera and catch the people who you allege are doing this in the act..then you'll have proof not even the least competant copper can deny.

If you reply to this Please don't just paste and copy a whole load more stuff about satanism and individuals involved ...cos that doesn't answer what Im asking...
