  • Disability Bitch v International Day of Persons with Disabilities

I have ony a minor physical disability, but it doesn't stop me being able to view the whole disabled spectrum and try to envisage what it is like to have other disabilities.

Tom has unfortunatley had to have an additional disability to make him actually see that there is a broader spectrum.

And he has only just scraped the surface.

What is annoying is he is treated as if he has all encompassing knowledge and experience, (which is now being expanded as he gathers new disabilities), whilst not really having any true understanding of the whole spectrum.

Tom should try speaking from what he knows and admit that that is all he is doing, and let those who know more speak more.

The article is just an admittance of his previous ignorance.
Pre-disability I was ignorant too, but at least since then I am trying to be educated on not just my own disability issues but those of others too.

Ah, at last, an article by Tom that I can relate to.

    Well, not so much relate to as;

    1) Not try and hunt him down and squeeze him til he sees some sense

    2) Be pleased that he is big enough to aknowledge that there are other hassles involved with being disabled, i.e. the nightmare that is DLA, DWP, forms, appointments etc.

Now as a disabled person with a couple of disabling conditions (they always come in gangs) Tom has eventually made a step closer to what an awful lot of disabled people experience.

Hurrah, cos the disabled community needs more spokespersons.
Sorry that I have to be cheered by your misfortune Tom, I know it seems callous of me, and pretty damned selfish too, but... welcome to the club, now get out there and kick some butt!

  • Disability Bitch vs genes

    09:39am on 23 Jul 2009

    Hi DB.

    I agree totally.

Although genetically programmed at birth to be totally perfect (OK, bar the vertabrae confusion) I was maimed, yes, maimed by the actions of another person.
Which would contradict the genetics arguement EXCEPT; the other person was genetically programmed to be a risk taker, subsequently had a brain injury, which then led him to have problems understanding the consequences of his actions.

Yep, its written in our genes, or someone else's, that we are, or become, disabled.

If its any consolation, I blame the parents. (His, obviously.)

P.S. I have no dandruff at present, would a particularly interesting scab suffice?

  • Disability Bitch wants her DLA

    5:16pm on 18 Jul 2009

    maximum DLA = £120 approx.

Now just how much care will that buy me at SS rates?

    8 hours?

That is if I got max DLA, which would mean I required 24 / 7 help and supervision.

It would be nice if "someone" could read the criteria for DLA and then do these basic sums.
You know, "someone" in Government, the ones who think that they are cleverer than us dim crips.

Yeah, I know that means reading and adding up, but I am happy to help the aforementioned someone with the bigger words, or the carrying over (above or below the line.)

168 hours of care and mobility for £120 quid? Bargain !

  • Who needs airport assistance?

    7:17pm on 12 Jun 2009

    Oh dear Tom.

"At the moment, theres no enforcement and no questioning of anyone who requests assistance. If you ask for it, you get it."

No you don't. Even if you have proof that you asked for it. I use a wheelchair at home, and have a wheelchair where I am travelling to. Less to get damaged, and less weight for the plane. (Global Warming see?)
Slightly more hassle for the people who would rather sit around and chat, admittedly, but I've never met anyone who didn't need the assistance.

Guess you got unlucky, hey bud?
