Disabled Student Diaries 2003

Student Diaries
This is our 2003 Student Diaries series, where we followed three disabled students during their first month at university as freshers, through diaries that they sent us.

We then went back to meet them at the end of their first year to see how they'd got on...

Education, social life and independent living come into sharp focus at this point in the life of a young disabled person going to university. Read the diaries of Ciaran, Sara and Ruth for insights into their anxieties and the solutions they found in their new lives as students.
Ciaran
Ciaran is a wheelchair user studying English and Creative Writing at Manchester Metropolitan University. He likes Indie rock and his dream job would be writing for the music magazine NME.
Sara
Sara has albinism, is visually impaired and is studying Physiotherapy at the University of Birmingham. She is moving into student halls, sharing a house with 4 other girls.
Ruth
Ruth has Nail Patella Syndrome and is studying Medicine at the University of Leeds. Appropriately enough, she's also a big fan of TV medical drama ER.
