Salford Family Orchestra and Chorus

Salford Family Orchestra
What is it?

The BBC Philharmonic would like to invite Salford families to be part of the Salford Family Orchestra and Chorus created for the residents of Salford. Families are invited to join BBC Philharmonic musicians to create new music for a performance at The Bridgewater Hall, Manchester as part of the BBC Philharmonic's Family Concert.

The first Salford Family Orchestra project culminated in a show-stopping performance at the Royal Albert Hall in July 2009 as part of the BBC Proms. If you weren't able to participate in the first project don't worry! Now's your chance to sign up for our second project, please see the details below.

Who can join?

We are looking for families who would like to play music together.

The idea is simple: family members aged 7 & upwards, be they mums, dads, brothers, sisters, aunts, uncles or grandparents, sitting side-by-side, making music. Everyone is welcome, from keen amateurs to those who have never played in an orchestra before and it's ideal for those who have not picked up their instrument in years. Whatever instrument you play, at whatever level, you can come and join the fun. If you would prefer to sing instead that's fine too.

Everyone is welcome and we would love you to bring the whole extended family with you.

Numbers will be limited on this, our second project so register your interest early! We hope to be able to include everyone interested who wants to take part. However, please note that selection may be needed to make sure we have a balanced group of instruments.

We won't be selecting according to level or experience. Selection of whole family groups will be made rather than of individuals.

When is it?

Rehearsals for our second project will be on the following dates:

Sunday 31 January 1pm-4pm
Sunday 14 February 1pm-4pm
Sunday 28 February 1pm-4pm
Sunday 7 March 1pm-4pm
Saturday 13 March - Rehearsal times tbc

Sunday 14 March - 3pm Performance at The Bridgewater Hall in Manchester as part of the BBC Philharmonic Family Concert

Where is it?

Swinton High School, Sefton Road, Pendlebury, Manchester, M27 6DU

What should I bring?

Please bring an instrument if you have one and also drinks and snacks to have during rehearsal breaks.

How much does it cost?

Becoming a member of the Salford Family Orchestra is free for you and your family.

How do we register our interest?

Whether you are a new or returning member of the Salford Family Orchestra please request an application form from Charlotte Speirs: charlotte.speirs@bbc.co.uk
