Professional Development Scheme for Teachers

The Professional Development Scheme is for teachers and lecturers who have expressed a desire to look more closely at the professional music world.

A placement with the BBC Philharmonic offers teachers a unique opportunity to observe and participate in the artistic planning, preparation, management and delivery of a concert, recording, broadcast or education event/project of a world class symphony orchestra.

Placements can last from one to five days and are personalised to suit each person's area of interest or research. Opportunities exist for teachers to:
  • Observe orchestral rehearsals and discuss conducting techniques, rehearsal procedures etc. with a professional conductor or shadow an orchestral musician
  • Assist with a studio recording session and observe post-production digital editing in preparation for broadcast
  • Talk to the Producer, Orchestra Manager, Marketing Manager and Librarian about their work and assist appropriately
  • Observe or form part of the team for and Education & Outreach project
We have now recruited teachers for the scheme in 2007/08, but recruitment will start again in Summer 2008.
