BBC Philharmonic Proms Announced
The BBC Philharmonic is delighted to be returning to The Royal Albert Hall this Summer for four concerts as part of the legendary BBC Proms.
In July the BBC Philharmonic’s Chief Conductor Designate Juanjo Mena, brings us images of musical Spain, dancing days, moonlit caresses and sultry nights with music from Ravel, Debussy and de Falla. Later in the month Chief Conductor Gianandrea Noseda is joined by a raft of operatic talent and the Chorus of the Mariinsky Theatre, as he explores five masterpiece by Sergei Rachmaninoff. Never previously given complete at the Proms, the Three Russian Songs are poignant, gem-like time capsules of a Russia now irretrievably lost.
On 1st August Gianandrea Noseda bows out in his last ever concert as Chief Conductor of the orchestra, revisiting repertoire by Liszt and Beethoven, which he has performed and recorded with his orchestra to stunning effect in recent years. Written back to back with the Faust Symphony heard earlier in the season, Liszt's Dante Symphony should leave listeners looking to the heights of Heaven. And on 11th August, it is also the final concert of much-loved Chief Guest Conductor Vassily Sinaisky, who has served the orchestra for more than a decade steps down in September to become Conductor Emeritus. He conducts a programme which combines less frequented corners of the repertoire with Elgar's affectionate sketches of friends pictured within.
