MOZART Symphony No 31, Paris
SHOSTAKOVICH Cello Concerto No 1
BEETHOVEN Symphony No 7
Conductor Leo Hussain
Cello Thomas Carroll
Demonic, intoxicating and throbbing with energy, Beethoven's Seventh Symphony has been electrifying audiences for nearly two hundred years. Raw physical energy also can be found in Shostakovich's First Cello Concerto whose bounding vitality reflects the personality of the great cellist Mstislav Rostropovich, for whom it was written. And a sense of joyous celebratory brilliance also runs through Mozart's Paris Symphony, written during his stay in the French capital.
