George Butterworth's tragic death in the Great War cut short a hugely promising career, and his beautiful Idylls show what a loss he was to English music. Beethoven's 'Pastoral' Symphony needs no introduction but in Andrew Manze's hands, expect it to come up fresh as new paint.
Vilde Frang, who was to play the Nielsen Violin Concerto is indisposed. We are delighted that at very short notice her place is to be taken by the Japanese-born violinist Akiko Suwanai who will play the Violin Concerto by Sibelius. Information correct as at 5PM, 19 October.
This concert will be recorded for future broadcast on BBC Radio 3.
