BRAHMS Piano Concerto No 2
JOHN ADAMS Harmonielehre
Conductor Thierry Fischer
Piano Lars Vogt
Harmonielehre started life when John Adams experienced a dream in which he watched a tanker in San Francisco Bay shoot out of the water like a rocket. From the glittering pulsating rhythms of its opening, through to the shimmering light, optimism and energy of its close, this is a roller-coaster of a piece that never let's go for one moment. Equally large and ambitious in scale is the biggest and grandest of all romantic piano concertos - the majestic Second by Brahms.
Recorded by BBC Radio 3 for future broadcast.
