BRIDGE The Sea

*We are sorry to announce that due to illness Vilde Frang is unable to perform at this concert. We are grateful that Matthew Trusler is able to join us for this concert. The programme remains unchanged
Britten's lyrical Violin Concerto, composed against the threatening war clouds of World War II, emerges like a flower blooming in a burnt-out world. The Sea, by his teacher Frank Bridge, is a rapturous evocation of the ocean in all its moods. John Pickard's Tenebrae, takes its inspriation from the music of the tortured seventeenth century composer, Carlo Gesulado.
