TCHAIKOVSKY Violin Concerto
PROKOFIEV Symphony No 1, Classical
HAYDN Symphony No 104, London
Conductor Jac van Steen
Violin Vilde Frang
Two composers shake hands across the centuries with a raceful tribute to Haydn from the young Prokofiev. In his Classical Symphony, he imagined what Haydn might have written had he lived in the twentieth century. Hear it next to the grandeur and mature wisdom of Haydn's last symphony and the overture to Schumann's only opera, Genoveva. And Vilde Frang is the soloist in Tchaikovsky's much-loved Violin Concerto.
