Brahms's towering First Symphony is one of the truly life-affirming masterpieces of romantic music - full of drama and big, broad melodies. BBC SSO Chief Conductor Donald Runnicles starts the concert with the explosion of heroic energy that is Richard Strauss's orchestral showpiece Don Juan, and the orchestra's extremely talented principal cellist Martin Storey shows his mettle in Haydn's delightful C major Concerto.
This concert will be recorded for future broadcast on BBC Radio 3.
