In celebration of the Feast of St Cecilia (22 November), the BBC Singers perform a selection of late 16th and early 17th century choral works in a setting perfect for a cappella voices: St Paul's Knightsbridge. The Confraternity of St Cecilia was a society that awarded silver medallions for the best motets and chansons (it was stipulated that the works must not include any scandalous passages). Music for Cecilia showcases a selection of these prize-winning motets as well as the twelve-voice Missa cantatibus organis, penned by no fewer than seven composers.
The concert will be broadcast live on BBC Radio 3.
Admission by free ticket only.
Please note that because tickets are free, not everyone who is issued with tickets uses them and we therefore need to oversubscribe free events which means that tickets do not guarantee entry. We do consider carefully how many extra tickets to issue for each show, but we recommend that you arrive in good time to be sure that you are not disappointed.
