Music Nation: Sound of the South West is a day-long concert organised by the BBC Concert Orchestra as part of Music Nation, a Countdown Event for the London 2012 Festival.

Will also feature a performance from the Devon Teachers Rock Choir
Devon LDP Music Service and Hannah's @Seale Hayne have teamed up for a festival of youth ensembles to celebrate music-making in Devon.
There'll be a festival feel as audience members move between venues enjoying performances and collaborative works between groups; maybe have a go yourself in interactive performances and singing opportunities. All within the wonderful setting of Hannah's @Seale Hayne. Performances will take place across the campus between 2pm–6pm. Come along, March Forth! to Newton Abbot for this promenade concert with something for everyone.

JUTP Music emerging music leader, vocal coach Jonathan Schranz, will be joined by his BBC Concert Orchestra mentor David Beaman for a workshop on choruses from the uplifting oratorio ‘The Messiah' by Handel. No experience is needed for this two-hour workshop, and full coaching and music will be given to you on the day. The workshop will culminate in a performance on Saturday 31 March alongside the South West Camerata, the leading youth string ensemble from within the JUTP music family.

The University of Exeter Music Office, Choral Society, Concert Band, Symphony Orchestra, Clarinet and Flute Choirs and others join forces with groups from the City of Exeter and wider Devon to bring you an evening of "Music to Celebrate the Olympics", featuring great British favourites including Elgar's Nimrod and Handel's Hallelujah Chorus, plus a new Olympic Rings rhythm piece involving school children from around the region.

A joint event between South West Music School and Plymouth Music Zone, comprising of a free outdoor performance by an array of exceptional young musicians. The stage in Bedford Square, Exeter, will mainly comprise of SWMS students and graduates, alongside guests from PMZ. This is an all day, totally unplugged event, with a variety of young performers from singer-songwriters to solo violinists and everything in between. A fantastic opportunity to see some of the fine young talent from the region.

Plymouth 's Piazza, in the heart of the city centre, will reverberate to the sound of music on Sunday 4 March. Plymouth Youth Music Service will be joining forces with Plymouth Music Zone, South West Camerata and the South West Music School to present a day of non-stop live music beneath the BBC Big Screen. The programme features youth ensembles, community groups, young soloists and rock bands all taking to the stage to add their own exciting performances to the mix.

Ferry Tale of New WorksPlymouth and the River Fowey
Time: from 10.00 in Plymouth and from 2.00pm on the River Fowey
The flagship JUTP music ensemble South West Camerata, and their musical partners from Cornwall , Penzance Youth Strings will be joined by principal string players from the BBC Concert Orchestra for a performance at the BBC Big Screen in Plymouth , featuring new compositions by Devon composers. The performance will continue when the talented young string players travel to the Fowey estuary in Cornwall , where they will again perform their programme on the Boddinnick Ferry whilst cruising up and down the river Fowey with the music being amplified in order that audiences can be reached from shore to shore.

Spectrum Music Concert Wind Band in concert with the Shiphay Learning Academy Performing Arts GroupSt Mary's Church

A joint concert between Spectrum Music Concert Wind Band and Shiphay Learning Academy Performing Arts group, this concert is raising money for Bidwell Brook Special School Playground Appeal. The programme will include a variety of music from films and musicals, popular music and big band arrangements.

DEVON AND CORNWALL
Fionn and the Fat Jammers: running on Fuel Various locations in Devon and Cornwall
Start time: from 10.00am in Devon to 2.00pm in Cornwall
Fionn and the Fat Jammers are a JUTP Music group specialising in folk rock fusion. With an average age of 15 years old, the group formed at the recent JUTP Music Summer Youth Strings project in Golant 2011.
The “fat jammers” travel in a specially constructed “flash mob” van. They depart from Exeter at approx. 10am and travel to various locations across the south west, before meeting up and flash mobbing the main body of string players and public at the Boddinnick car ferry in Fowey for their Ferry Tale of New Works cruise.

CORNWALL
Wind Orchestras Play in CavernsCarnglaze Caverns, St. Neot

The wind orchestras of Music Cornwall will fill Carnglaze Caverns with sound as they combine for a celebration of music making. Players of all ages will travel from schools throughout Cornwall to spend a morning playing together and experiencing the thrill and joy of performing in a such a large ensemble.

Advernturers in Music - the big rehearsal Heartlands, Robinson's Shaft

Brass players and brass bands of all ages and skills levels are invited to a Scratch rehearsal and performance of a new work for brass bands and voices entitled “Adventurers in Music” written by Cornish composer Simon Dobson (nominee for the 2011 BASCA award) and writer Jane Pugh. The new work, written in seven episodes, has been commissioned by the Cornish Mining World Heritage Site.
Registration will begin at 10.00a.m and sessions led by members of the BBC Concert Orchestra will take place in the morning and afternoon, culminating in a mini-performance of the new work in the early afternoon.

QuijadaThe Union Hotel

Performers: Quijada
Quijada are a five piece Latin band, playing classics from the Cuban songbook plus songs of their own invention. It is basically Son style music, an early form of Salsa music from Cuba. The line up includes guitar and vocal, Quatro, bass and two percussionists. The highly infectious set includes Chan Chan, Carraterro and Guantanamera.

Performers: The Westernairs Concert Wind Band and the Liskerrett Male Voice Choir
This concert is a charity event to help the Echo Centre in Liskeard, a local day centre for disabled people. The music is of an eclectic nature, so there's something for everyone - there will also be a chance for the audience to take part. Tea, coffee and cake will be available during the interval.
