Reviewing the Situation - Final
Samantha came third in the competition
It was the night we've all been waiting for - the grand FINAL! And what better way to kick off the show than to reunite our 12 Nancys and 12 Olivers for a rip-roaring performance of 'I'd Do Anything'!
And our three Nancy finalists, Samantha, Jessie and Jodie had been kitted out especially in red Nancy dresses so they well and truly look the part!
It was an action packed show, with some surprises thrown in, but more importantly, we said goodbye to one of our finalists at the end of this show.
Jodie was first to take to the stage with her solo performance, singing 'Son of a Preacher Man'. So how did it go down with the panel?
Cameron said, 'Jodie has convinced me that she could make a Nancy. You absolutely deserve to be in the final.' John agreed, 'every song she sings, you believe the words. I look forward to the day I can guest star with you on the West End stage!' Andrew wasn't too sure, adding 'that was a very, very, very good performance. You have an outsize talent, and a very strong voice, but I dont know if its going to be enough tonight, but it might be.'
Next up was Samantha, singing 'Anyone Who Had a Heart.' Did do enough to capture the hearts of the panel with her performance this time?
Denise said, 'you definitely have the voice of Nancy. You've been on the most incredible journey and have developed the most. But sometimes emotionally you sit on the fence.' Long time fan Barry said, 'you're young but have a very mature talent in my opinion. You can sing, you can dance, you can act and you're reasonably attractive - the west end needs you Sam!' And Andrew concluded, 'I do think you could be Nancy. My question is whether or not you could build up the stamina for 8 shows a week. Its a gamble, but I think you could make it.'
And then our third finalist Jessie performed 'The First Time Ever I Saw Your Face'. Did she hit the right notes with the panel?
John said, 'you did captivate me tonight. You have a great voice, you're superbly talented, but I'm worried about your consistency.' But Cameron was impressed, adding, 'I think Jessie was born to play Nancy. You have something that you can't teach an artist.' And Andrew agreed, adding, 'I never thought I would sit in a chair anywhere in the world and agree with Cameron Mackintosh!'
Next we had a sneak peek at one of the surprises the Nancys were treated to this week - a master class with none other than Liza Minelli! They really have been living the dream this week it seems!
Next up, our three winning Olivers paired up with our three remaining Nancys to perform duets for the first time. Would one of these pairings be appearing on a West End stage together in a few months time perhaps?
First we had Jodie and Laurence performing 'Getting To Know You', then Samantha and Harry performed 'Singing In The Rain.' And finally Jessie and Gwion took to the stage to perform 'Truly Scrumptious.'
So what did the panel think of the duets? Cameron said, 'Gwion and Jessie stood out for me. The heart of Oliver was there.' Andrew said, 'I agree, it was fantastic what Jessie did today. I also thought Jodie did great.'
After the second look at the work the Nancys did with Liza Minelli this week, we were treated to a very special performance of 'Maybe This Time' from our three remaining Nancys.
Following this we had yet another treat as Lee Mead joined the runner up Olivers for a special performance of 'Any Dream Will Do'.
But then it was time to hear the results to learn which Nancy was next to leave.
In third place, it was Samantha.
She said 'It's been the most amazing experience of my life. Thanks to everyone and the panel for making it so incredible.'
Andrew added, 'do you know what, I did think this would happen. But you've done so well to have got this far Samantha.'
With the lines reopened, it was time for Samantha to say 'Cheerio' and sing us out with her rendition of 'As Long As He Needs Me.'
Jodie and Jessie. Only one can be Nancy, and its up to you who that is.
Who will you vote for? Don't forget to tune in at 8.45pm for the final results show and to see who is crowned Nancy.
