Mum's the Word - Jodie
How does Jodie's mum feel about the final?
We grabbed a quick chat with Madeleine, Jodie's mum, to see how she's feeling now her daughter is in the final and could be Nancy.
How do you think Jodie has got on so far? Are you proud?
It goes beyond proud to watch her make the journey she's made. When she got down to the final 12, we said to her 'don't ever give up', and she really has gone from strength to strength.
Did you ever think that she would get this far?
I dreamt she'd get this far. Her dad and I know that this is beyond Jodie's ultimate dream, we've known that for years and years, and to live the reality of it is absolutely mind blowing.
It's been the most phenomenal journey that I think any parent can go on. We go to watch the show, and then we drive straight back home on Sunday morning so we can get in and watch it all again on TV!
But she has really absorbed the experience of working with the coaches, and has said that she just wants to take every single moment with her and take on board everything they've taught her. She has lived the entire dream, and she's never even moaned to us. It's just been phenomenal.
Have you been surprised by the level of public support Jodie has had?
I've been so overwhelmed. I mean, our phone here has just never ever stopped ringing from the start. We've had people at the door today with balloons and cards, it's crazy. Even down to some old gentleman we don't know calling to tell us that he's spent £10 every week voting for her and that he thinks she's worth every penny.
It warms your heart. She has that magnetism, and if you could bottle it and sell it, you could retire! I think Jodie deserves to be living her dream because she's a lovely person. I always feel that good things happen to good people.
Do you have a favourite performance of Jodie's so far?
Every which one of them! Each week her performance becomes my favourite and then the next week it's changed again. I must admit I loved 'I Have Nothing.' I just thought that showed her true grit.
Do you have a favourite performance from any of the other Nancys?
I'm very close to Jessie and Jessie's mum, because I think as the weeks go on you become one big family, and Jessie calls me 'Mammy 2'. From Jessie, I really enjoyed 'The Man That Got Away.' But you love them all to pieces, you really do.
Do you have any good luck rituals?
Yes I have. I have a medal that a 98-year-old woman gave me, and every week I wear it in my bra! Then, when the results are coming up, I put my hand there and I squeeze the medal so hard that you can see it on my fingers for about two days afterwards! Whether it's working I don't know, but I'm sticking to it!
It's my birthday this week, and I only want one thing 4 words: Jodie you are Nancy!
