Sarah Leigh-Barnett, a geography teacher from New Basford, has been named a winner in BBC Talent’s search for two new television weather presenters.
She travelled to BBC Television Centre in London to compete against other budding presenters chosen from heats around the UK.
More than 10,000 people entered competition. In the final she fought off competition from 29 finalists.

Sarah-Leigh is delighted with the win: “When they announced my name as the second winner, I was totally gobsmacked. I’m absolutely thrilled to be given this opportunity - really, really excited.”
She has her daughter to thank for her success. It was she who told her mum about the BBC Talent scheme.
Explaining the idea behind the weather presenter search, BBC Talent Campaign Manager, Hetta Scherman, said: “Local weather reporters hold a very important place in the hearts and minds of television viewers and the response to this scheme was phenomenal.
“The standard was impressive and Sarah-Leigh is just the kind of talent we set out to find - she is natural, warm, intelligent and has a great presence on camera. I’m sure her background as a geography teacher will stand her in great stead for her meteorology training.”
Sarah-Leigh has been given a six month training contract with BBC East Midlands Today, starting in October and includes training with the Meteorological Office in London.
