It's the moment that's been 15 years in the making..... Nottingham
Express Transit is set to open next month.
Net Line One, set to revolutionise the way people get around Nottingham,
represents a £200 million investment which raises the city's
profile and
encourages inward investment, tackles congestion and pollution and
creates a modern transport link for thousands of people every day.
It is now set to open on Tuesday March 9th - subject to approval
from Her Majesty's Railway Inspectorate - the day after a special
event to
mark the completion of the project.
Once services are running, people will get their first chance to
experience for themselves the easy access onto the 15 smart new
trains, the smooth and quiet ride and swift and affordable journeys.
This is a month ahead of the revised programme, due to a very successful
period of running a virtual service without passengers to test the
system.
The historic occasion follows extensive planning, an Act of Parliament,
exhaustive financial planning and contractual negotiations, an
unprecedented PFI deal for a local transport project and over three
years of construction.
A special celebration event has been arranged on Monday March 8th,
providing a sneak preview for people involved in the project, invited
guests and some members of the public.

The history
Work on NET Line One started in June 2000 and most of the work is
now complete- 67 years after the last tram ran in Nottingham on
5th September 1936.
NET is a joint project promoted by Nottingham City Council, Nottinghamshire
County Council and Nottingham Development Enterprise. The concession
was awarded to Arrow Light Rail Ltd-a consortium including Carillon,
Bombardier, Nottingham City Transport and Transdev- after Parliamentary
approval was received in 1994. It has been funded by a £179 million
PFI deal.
