What is it? Where is it? How was it?

There are a few different types of restaurant.

There are the places that produce exquisite food - and at the same time make you feel guilty for your lack of BA (Hons) in wine ordering.

Then there's the classic 'bring your owns', where you don't have drink ordering issues but usually experience indigestion or spend a fortune in bars afterwards as you've been in the restaurant for precisely 45 minutes!

Not to mention the 'chain' restaurants, which whilst good for 'sports'/ 'group' Christmas nights out, generally charge decent amounts of money for unexceptional food.

That's where 'Bees Make Honey' differs. When you walk in, you're welcomed by homely décor and a chilled atmosphere.

You can choose where you sit (space permitting) and select your meal from the blackboards arranged around the room. (No menus large enough to land a helicopter here!).

Food wise, you'll see Chef and proprietor Mick, prepare dishes from an open kitchen. And as Mick's experience includes 9 years at 'Bees Make Honey' and 4 years classical training at the Hilton, you won't be disappointed with the results.

When the starter, 'Halloumi and Artichoke Salad' arrived, I was impressed. The tasty Greek cheese was placed in perfect portions with the artichokes, olives, salad and dressing.

Next, I went for Zarzuela (lots of fish in a tomato and garlic sauce, while my friend (eventually) decided on rack of lamb with hot mint jus.

While the pork looked divine, I didn't spend too much time being jealous; my main course came steaming hot and with a tempting aroma.

While the monkfish, squid, mussels, hake and king prawns kept warm in the pan, I tucked into deep-fried courgette (mmm) and a good selection of potatoes and vegetables.

All of which seemed to go down better with wine, in the knowledge that we weren't paying £25 a bottle, (incredibly 'Bees Make Honey' is a BYO!)

Just as we were feeling nicely satiated, we had a few choices. 1) Phone a friend for drinks in the pub, 2) 50/50 on a drink in town or ....just before we had chance to even consider the former, I spotted white chocolate cheesecake on the blackboard and after quick consultation with the audience (i.e. friend and I ) it was declared that it would not only be rude, but practically criminal not too.

Needless to say we finished our wine and dessert with remarkable ease and concluded from the evidence that visiting 'Bees Make Honey' was definitely a good idea.

Going back to my original questions: What is it? Bistro type restaurant with gorgeous food. Where is it? Canning Circus, near Tequilla - short walk from town. How was it? Very good!

'Bees make Honey' is open Mon to Sat 12 til late.

Special feature: Party bookings for more than 10 people - take your own music (CD not brass band obviously).

Special student feature: Every fortnight on Thursdays (from 24th October) Starter, Main course and lock-in £15!
