As a regular
shopper in Nottingham, I would have to say that the pigeon infestation
is not as great as that of Lincoln. On several occasions I have
had unfortunate encounters with such vermon. They filth all over
and are unsightly. I feel that local Councils should enforce pest
control to at least reduce pigeon numbers.

Pigeons do not
hurt you so why should you hurt them ?????????????

No, don't shoot
them. Just evacuate the town centre for a day, then drop a small,
tactical neutron bomb. That'll wipe out all the pideons, and leave
the buildings intact. Ok, so there might be a bit of residual radiation,
but, hey, probably no worse than all those blasted mobile phones!

Perhaps, with
the planned demise of fox-hunting, we should invite the Quorn Hunt
to tally-ho round the Market square chasing pigeons instead of foxes.
It would make a marvellous spectacle.

I'm very angry,
that you should consider killing those pigeons, they have much right
to live than we do. Most humans in nottingham carry diseases just
as much !!!!

of them.Just the one on my roof

Like it or not
pigeons carry more diseases than rats, In small numbers they could
be tollerated but in large number as in nottingham present a health
hazzard. I think that they should be humainly culled (I.e. shot)untill
numbers are at sensible levels again.

i TAKE EVERYONES
POINT ABOUT FERAL PIGEONS BEING A PROBLEM BUT THE RACING PIGEON
IS A THOROUGHBRED AND IF ALL THOSE ???!!!!!??? OUT THERE WHO SLAG
OFF PIGEONS IN GENERAL WOULD TAKE THE TIME TO RESEARCH A LITTLE
THEY WOULD ASO FIND OUT THAT DURING THE WAR THEY SAVED A LOT OF
LIVES. OH AND BY THE WAY THEY ARE ANYTHING BUT STUPID.(unlike some
who can't even spell pigeon.....They should be shot for ignorance.

Ok, so no-one
really likes them, but what gives "us" the right to decide whether
or not something should live or die. Just because we are irritated
by them, that is no reason to kill. Other creatures can be annoying
too, but you wouldn't dream of putting a gun to their heads. I think
it's all a bit sick!!

Like many people
here, I don't like the thought of the birds being shot, poisened
or whatnot, so how's about *natural* controls.
I thought there
had been an idea to introduce kestrels or some similar bird of prey
to cull them somewhat? If not, how about that?
If that doesn't
work, how about something that will prey on nincompoops who take
food into town to *feed* them?
Failing kestrels,
how about we stop people feeding them, cut down on ruubbish - i.e.
remove their food supply. That will stop, or at least slow down,
these vermin of the skies....

In Liverpool
there is nothing but a load of flying dieseases they are a thing
which carries diseases for a living. I think pigeons are pests.I
think if a pigeon comes in 30 yards of your house you can kill it.In
my time my mother had to have a tetnis because she was attacked
by a minging pigeon in London.

What r u talking
about pigeons should be shot? I agree with Tiger Lily, pigeons rule.
Let them live their life in peace and we can live ours without the
deaths of pigeons on our consciences.

When firefly said Let them live their life in peace she couldent
of stated it better. Why kill them. They have just as much of a right
to live as we do.So dont be cruel to pigeons.Let them live.Long
live the pigeons!!

I have many
of these stupid animals the live outside of my room. I would do
anything to be able to bring a shotgun up to my room and kill everyone
of them. Because I am not alowed to kill them I will have to hope
that the University will somehow get rid of them. I realy don't
see any point in letting Pigions live and I hope someday this entire
species will be killed of to make room for slightly smarter animals.

I wonder what
the Pigeons think of you!, What is this? why are you all hating
pigeons so much? what did they ever do but jokingly poop on your
head once in a while? Don't you think you might have deserved it
in just a small way? Hey, its pigeons getting their own back for
all your thoughts on this board at least!. Besides, why do many
of you think you have the divine right to kill another living soul?
you might be killing your recently dead grand parents come back
to watch over you in the form of a pigeon, the least you could do
is give them something to eat! Really, many indigenous cultures
of the world would say the same thing. Can you really ignore their
wisdom? Wisdom far older than the scientific(ir) rational and (il)logical
premises that western culture is built on? Dont be so foolish! Humans
are not the center of the world, just a part of the complex make
up of this diverse planet.

Pigeon Pudding.
Line a basin with rich pastry half an inch thick ; put in three
pigeons, with about half a pound of beef steak from well-hung meat,
the yolks of three hard-boiled eggs, salt, pepper, and spices ;
and pour in gravy from the bones or trimmings, with brown stock
as a foundation, to half the depth ; cover with paste, and tie in
a cloth. The pudding will require about three hours' boiling.

Pigeons are
a complete nuisance. Dog fouling, a nuisance of similar magnitude.
But have you seen the mess the Police horses leave behind? Now that
is a real problem. Couldn't they wear collection bags on their rears
or something? I nearly lost my boot in a horse turd this afternoon.
Dog poo you can remove, as demonstrated in the Royle Family. But
step in a horse dropping and you can kiss your footwear goddbye!

Right, no offence
to all the Pigeon lover's out there, but I just don't understand
you. So Pigeons have just as much right to live as anyone else?
Hmmmm, not sure I agree with that one. Maybe we should create some
Pigeon hospitals then, and provide them with leisure facilties,
and their own little houses. You must all be vegetarian or something
because there is NO WAY that Pigeons have a greater right to live
than humans. It makes sense to cut the population down when it gets
too big. Afterall, what would you do if a giant swarm of dung beatles
moved to Nottingham, they're not going to harm anyone, they just
want some nice dung, hmmm, not sure you'd agree about that would
you?

The Pigeons
in the square and near the broadmarsh and on every single other
road in town are good for one thing and one thing only... KICKING!
Kicking pigeons is a very rewarding and satisfying pass time and
has kept me amused on many a walk from Westside to Hockley, it improves
reaction times and if your any good at it you can perhaps damage
a pigeon enough to lower the numbers.

I think that
pigeons in towns are far too underdressed, especially in the evenings
near the nightclubs. Going out with only a few feathers to cover
their modesty - they'll catch their death in this cold! They should
all be given little coats to keep them respectable, and then they
should be shot.
Hokum
Nottingham
and in reply...
I totally agree with Hokum. They should wear more clothes. But
I think we should let them live as I too find they most amusing
especially when my mate Clare has a phobia and will even go the
long way round to aviod them.
Kerry

I am the Clare
who is scared of these evil creatures! Yes it is funny to see people
who are afraid of them... but it is not funny when you are the one
who is making a fool of themselves in the market square or for that
matter Beeston town centre! The pigeons are nasty there! I really
think that something should be done with them... perhaps like A
Parrot suggests and Patricia... they should be cooked!

wouldn't like it if a massive rottweiler came bounding up to you
with saliva all over its mouth and big fangs glinting... well that
is what it is like with pigeon phobics I hate their claws, wings
and their inability to fly in a straight line! I suggest that anyone
feeding them should be made to take the things home! They will soon
change their minds! Pigeon poop and disease all over their houses!

Although i find
this debate most interesting and amusing, and have indeed contributed
to it before, readers of this forum might like to note that the
pigeons seem to have deserted the Market Square... whether or not
this is a seasonal thing to do with the xmas market remains to be
seen. perhaps the council has already taken steps?

i THINK THEY
SHOULD ALL BE SHOT, THEN COOKED OVER A LARGE FIRE, AND FED TO ALL
THE HOMELESS IN THE CITY.
A PARROT
NOTTS
and in reply...
Yes, I agree with A.Parrot, they should all be shot and made
into food pellets for the homeless people. Ferrel pigeons are revolting,
genetically defective vermin, thanks to the people who feed them
and drop food on the floor. There is no natural selection, so they
are all grotesque freak pigeons hobbling around spreading disease
and causing anxiety and nuisance. I don't think it is possible to
shoot them in an urban area, and poisoning them will make them die
in the lofts of shops and rot with maggotts etc.... They should
be either netted in the square and gassed, or fed something to stop
them breeding. They are no better than sewerage rats, and no-one
thinks they have ';rights'.
