Final farewell to Nottingham's Odeon theatre
Odeon
news block
The Odeon on Angel Row has closed its doors for good.
Nottingham's Odeon cinema, once the centre for cinema-goers in the city, has closed its doors for the final time after almost 70 years.

The final film to be shown at the Odeon was a 13-minute documentary, which recorded the venue's conversion to a twin-screen cinema in 1965.

A brand-new multiplex run by the rival Warner chain is due to open on the site of the former Evening Post building on Forman Street later this year.

The Odeon which opened as the Ritz in 1933 played host to the Beatles in 1964.

Nottingham now has just the one original city centre cinema left, the Savoy on Derby Road.

Gordon Roebuck, the Odeon's manager in its last days, says its closure will mean less competition for the remaining cinemas in the city, which he says is a pity.

It still isn't certain what will happen to the property, which is in a prime location near Market Square.
