It
might seem a terrible thing to say but, as we all wish Kylie a speedy recovery,
Madonna has wasted little time entering the dance gap vacated by the tiny Antipodean. If
last album American Life suggested the ever changing Queen of Pop was about to
fall off her perch then Confessions
proves everyone wrong. Kylie
had her gold hot-pants, Madonna announces her 2005 vision as pretty in pink with
a sample of Abba'a Gimme Gimme Gimme. It's worked perfectly with Hung Up racing
to number one. Confessions is unremitting in its
dance beat with all tracks mixed like a DJ set. There are no gaps and no hint
of slushy ballads. For this year's Madonna the bass bin rules, pounding a beat
over which layers and layers of rich swirling electronica reside. It's
a modern updating of Georgio Moroder / Donna Summer era I Feel Love, no more so
than on Future Lovers. Suffice to say that this album
is so good anyone of these tracks could be released as a single. i-Pod:
