Moloko
- Catalogue (Best Of) It's a strange thing with
Moloko. You think they've had more sizable hits than they actually have. To the
casual listener The Time Is Now and Sing It Back will be recognisable but then
you're probably struggling. So few of the songs on
this best of failed to dent the top 40 which is amazing for a band with such a
distinctive sound, and in singer Rosin Murphy, such a sexy individual. Maybe
we shouldn't be surprised. Her debut solo album was outstanding but was possibly
too diverse for its own good. If you are a Moloko
fan you might want to get in early. There's a live CD to go along with this so
you can enjoy their greatest hits in concert as well. 3.5/5 Dannii
Minogue - The Hits and Beyond You have to feel sorry for Dannii. She's
always been in the shadow of sister Kylie. Of course, without sis she probably
wouldn't have had a career at all and she's to be applauded for sticking in there
and constantly managing to reinvent herself, even if this normally means jumping
on the current music trend.
You'd be surprised how
many hits she's actually had; so many in fact that the compilers have been able
to ditch less well received chart campaigners like I Don't Wanna Take This Pain
and Show You the Way To Go. But despite many top
10 outings, how many can you actually hum? Pick a Kylie tune and it's pretty much
instilled in the brain, shout out a Dannii track like So Under Pressure or Don't
Wanna Lose This Feeling and can you honestly sing it? I
rest my case. 2.5/5 |
