Jonathan Rice - Trouble Is Real
Jonathan Rice album sleeve
Aye, aye - looks like a Big Brother moment

He's got plenty going for him and this will only boost his CV.

Some people make you sick. At 21 Scottish-American Jonathan Rice seemingly has it all. He's got a pop girlfriend (Jenny Lewis from Rilo Kiley), his acting career is taking off (he's going to play Roy Orbison in a biopic of Johnny Cash staring alongside Joaquin Phoenix) and now he's released an album that could well propel him into the album charts.

Not a bad conundrum to have - acting or music?

Trouble Is Real presents an artist who at times is Nick Drake, can veer into Rufus Wainwright territory (although no one can really touch Rufus), has a hint of World Party and is all delivered in a voice that's just hoarse enough to give it real character.

Not quite as rough as Stereophonics Kelly Jones but enough to give it an interesting edge.

Don't expect Jonathan Rice to be an instant hit, but once his film career gets going and the radio stations take note he could find himself with a James Blunt-style slow burning success.

One to watch.
