As the first people past the bouncers on Saturday
night, your intrepid BBC reporters were pleasantly surprised by
both the venue and the vibe – this new ultra-modern city lounge
bar & club is infused with both infectious good feeling and stunning
interior design.
The staff at mode were exceptionally friendly, from the manager
to the bar workers. |

Look and feel
An air of lavish opulence fills the club; spaced
out over many different levels, Mode features four separate bars
and two different DJ booths, allowing the discerning clubber to
choose their environment accordingly.
Upon entry the first impression is of luxurious
space – it feels almost like a swish hotel bar, with wide comfortable
sofas and a massive, if somewhat limited, bar.
This venue is about textures and colours as much
as space and sound – the walls and floor cover every hue from a
rich, velvety scarlet to a lush organic green.

The designers appear to have taken some cues from
clubs such as London’s Fabric and Sheffield’s The Republic; upstairs
on the spacious mezzanine style dancefloor there are several uber-cool
cubbyholes, trimmed with red leather and complete with stylish slanting
windows.
They look terribly chic, and the bed-style cubicles
are wonderful for giving your legs a rest; however, I’d hate to
be cleaning the place the morning after – I bet there’s still champagne
and red bull soaked into all those elegantly trimmed nooks and crannies!
The staff
The staff at mode were exceptionally friendly, from the manager
to the bar workers. Everyone was clearly enthusiastic about the
venue – despite an incredibly busy opening weekend – and were both
pleasant and helpful.
It makes such a difference; many of the bigger organisations should
take note – in an era of overpriced impersonal superclubs, the friendliness
of everyone at mode shone through.
Props go to Lydia for showing us around the venue
and making us feel instantly at home!
The vibe
The vibe on the floor was excellent, if a little trendy – although
the dress code is smart casual, if you really want to make an impression
it’s worth dressing up because the beautiful people were out in
all their jingly-jangly force!
Mode attracted a wide range of customers – from
post closing-time bar seeking businessmen to dedicated clubbers
eager to experience the legendary Trevor Nelson and the godfather
of London’s Notting Hill Carnival, Norman Jay.
The sound-system was impeccable, and the DJ booths
were equipped with all the latest gadgetry to make your musical
experience all the more memorable.
Worth it?
If the opening weekend is anything to go by, Mode promises to be
a venue to watch – with many different nights catering for a range
of musical styles and a host of residents, I’m sure it will become
an integral part of Nottingham’s flourishing club scene.
If smoothly dressed clubbers and soulful tunes
are your thing, then be sure to check it out - it’s the next best
thing to booking a private party in an upscale hotel. See ya around!
