A brand-new six part BBC drama with a host of Nottinghamshire connections is currently filming in our county.

The drama, entitled A Thing Called Love is penned by local writer William Ivory and stars ex-Eastenders actor Paul Nicholls.

The writer's chuffed to be filming in Nottingham: "This is the first time that the place which has helped to form my life and so much of my writing has actually been allowed to come forth and shine!"

It's not only William Ivory with connections to Robin Hood County - a host of the cast and crew are also Nottingham born and bred.

Local artists starring in the series include Karl Collins, Shauna Shim, Elizabeth Rider, Chris Gascoyne and Ben Miles. Other big names in the cast include Roy Barraclough and Kaye Wragg.

Filming started in April and continues until mid-August 2004.

With so many Notts locations used in the shooting the drama promises to be interesting for the backdrop alone.

Locations already used include the National Ice Centre, Sneinton Windmill, Old Market Square and Ilkeston's Scala cinema.

The show is expected to be aired on the BBC from September 2004.

The plot
Paul Nicholls takes on his debut leading role in a modern day tale of one man's search to find true love.

Told through the eyes of hopeless romantic Gary Scant (Paul Nicholls), the six-part serial charts his journey with his earthy working class friends and family as he tries to comprehend the mysteries of the human heart.

In summary Laura Mackie, Head of Drama Serials for the BBC, says: "A Thing Called Love is a poignant signature drama from the heart which acknowledges that, although we can't all win the lottery or cure cancer, we can lift our lives out of the everyday routine through the magic of true love and great sex."

True love, great sex and Nottingham - what could be better!
