It may not have a plush interior, a plucky waitress or a spot of dinner jazz but The Indian Community Centre in New Basford does have curry - and loads of it!

And with prices ranging from £3 for a meat lunch to £1.20 for kids we reckon we might have found the cheapest curry in the county.

The canteen-style restaurant serves up lentil dahl, vegetables, rice, chapatti, yoghurt and a sweet dish - all on a traditional Indian plate.

The food is prepared freshly every week day and is open to everyone.

Every day is vegetarian except Thursdays, where there is also a meat option.

Everyone sits down together on long tables, so you can make new friends!

There's a discount for unemployed diners and the kitchens are open between 12.30pm - 1.30pm Monday to Friday.

Full price list...

  • £2.60/£2.30 for vegetarian lunch
  • £3/£2.60 for meat option on Thursdays
  • £1.40/£1.20 for kids

Can you beat that?

Get what you pay for?The Basford comm centre curries are fantastic and definitely value for money. Authentic, too. Not prepacked, processed supermarket versions or pub grub.

the currry in notts always gives me the runs.

Joshi
My mum's! The cost of the ingredients and gas (minimal water and elecy too)only. The taste is priceless though...mmmmmm!

Billy
You can also get ripped for a lot of money. I find that that the £2.29 curries sold over the counter in ASDA's is much nicer than what you can pay around £12 for in a curry house.

Chris
Wetherspoons is also cheap, £4.19 on St James Street, you get Curry (choose from about 8) poppadoms, naan and chutney aswell as a pint. Not a traditional idian, but cracking value for money.

David
Why is this country obsessed with getting the cheapest. I know we're ripoff Britain and all, but you often pay for what you get.
