Songwriter Pippa Marland has co-written a song that will be played at Heathrow Air Traffic Control on Friday 24th October 2003 to mark Concorde's final landing.

It's called, appropriately enough, Concorde.

Pippa wrote the song with a member from her band Carmina.

And, as coincidence would have it, it appears on the group's new live album, 'On a Quiet Street' which is released on Monday 27th October.

Carmina singer Pippa Marland belts out Concorde

She's travelled all over the world with Carmina. When she's not performing, Beeston based Pippa teaches songwriting to young Nottingham musicians at Broxtowe College.

"It's a great honour," she says. "The reason we wrote the song with the image of Concorde is because it's got such great visual appeal.

It's a symbol of man challenging the boundaries. In the song there's a girl in a relationship that's going nowhere. Concorde inspires her to take the decision to get out of it."

The song was actually written in 1995. A fan of the band passed a copy to another friend who works for the air traffic control.

He played it to his colleagues and they've decided to listen to it privately as Concorde makes its last historic commercial landing.

Pippa says it'll be an emotional moment for the controllers and it's lovely they want to listen to a song she composed.

Concorde – Pippa Marland / Rob King (From the album ‘On A Quiet Street’ – Carmina, Live in Ireland I&E CD 101, and ‘Weather in the Heart’- Carmina I&E CD 102)

Walking hand in hand
Down in the street at night
See all the colours of the rainbow
I want to stay and see
The glimmer of the morning light
And hear my own thoughts

Cause I can’t sleep at night
I can’t sleep at night
I think of the lights
I can’t sleep at night

In the skylight there’s the waving
Of a moving light
Is that the Concorde?
They say we’re living and we’re living
On its path of flight Is that the Concorde?

Oh I wish I could be there
Wish I could be there
Flying through the air
I wish I could be there

I’m going to leave
I’m going to leave
I’ll hit the early light
Before you wake up
I’m shooting down the stairs
I’ll take the early flight
Before you wake up

Oh you know I can’t stay
You know I can’t stay
I’m leaving anyway
You know I can’t stay

Standing in the shadow
Of the open door I see the cars go
Lying in the night I hear the engine’s roar
The hours go slow

Cause I can’t sleep at night
I can’t sleep at night
I think of the lights
I can’t sleep at night
