The National Points Series event is being hosted
by the Forestry Commission in the 3,000 acre wood, near Clipstone,
on 30th and 31st August.
It offers the chance for spectators and riders of all abilities to hit the saddle and line-up
at the starting gate.
Recreation Ranger Chris Bray says:
"World-class riders
will reach breakneck speeds tackling single tracks, bends and bumps
in a bid to accumulate points for the national championship."
The weekend is the biggest in the forest for over a decade.
The
hard ground and undulating course will make the elite event a
fast and highly competitive race.
It is being staged over five venues
this year - including Thetford Forest, East Anglia, and Drumlanrig
Castle in Scotland. Sherwood Pines is the penultimate round.
But
the National Points Series is not just about semi-pro riders at
the top of the tree. There are also categories for enthusiasts of
all ages and abilities, ranging from under 12 years to veteran.
The main race day will be Sunday, but high-speed
practice will take place on the Saturday.
They’ll also be trade
stands selling the latest biking gear. The forest park’s family
cycle routes will be closed for the event on both days.
