The grounds of Nottingham Castle are to be transformed into a medieval village this weekend to celebrate one of Nottinghamshire's very own legends.

Historical re-enactments bring the past to life and there will be the chance to have a go at archery.

Every afternoon there will be a jousting tournament performed by the Nottingham Jousting Association at 3.30pm on the Castle Green.

There will be jugglers, jesters and medieval puppeteers to entertain you, as well as some old favourites including 'What A Palaver' and the creepy 'Rat Catcher'.

Craftspeople will be demonstrating skills that have been passed down through the centuries – wood turning, shoe making and coin striking to name a few.

You can even start your Christmas shopping by picking up some unusual gifts for friends and family.

The Castle Green will be amok with action as the outlaws and Sheriff’s men come to blows, on and off horseback.

All your favourite characters will be there to join in the fun – from Friar Tuck, if he can be lifted onto his horse, to the fair Maid Marion, held at the mercy of the Sheriff.

The question on everybody’s lips is whether Robin Hood himself will dare to appear at the home of his arch enemy to save her and save the day.

Have a look at pictures from last year's pageant.
