Art show with a difference at Nottingham Trent

The end-of-term art frenzy known as the Fine Art Degree Show is drawing hundreds of aficionado to the Nottingham Trent campus.

Fine art students in the final year of their degree at Nottingham Trent University present pieces of work at the Bonington Building off Shakespeare Street in Nottingham every year at the end of term.

This year's crop is a fine selection of wildly unusual art forms, ranging from interactive video, performance art, sculpture, photography and painting.

One of the more unusual works is a chair and table covered in jam created by food artist Diana Ali.

Manchester-born Diana says she likes to question the accepted use of everyday objects such as jam, adding that she wants to push the boundaries of jam beyond toast and teacakes.

Last year Diana used chocolate to create a Hansel and Gretel sculpture, which she left outside in her garden where it eventually melted.

Another of this year's graduates is cartoonist Jon Burgerman who's already created dozens of his own characters, ranging from Bad Beaver to Super Fathead.

Even though he's still in his early twenties, Jon has developed his own website and range of products, including T-shirts, knickers, bags and vests.

The Fine Art Show allows students to organise and set up a professional exhibition and gain contacts within the art world and business.

The 65 students exhibiting their work will end up in a diverse range of jobs, if previous graduates are any indication, such as artists, teachers, business designers, curators, filmmakers and graphic artists.

The Fine Art Show has been running for years and has been displayed at the Bonington Building was built in the 1960s.
